NEWS:
I have started work on a new project which I currently call OpenGuitar. It is an all-purpose reference tool for guitar players of all levels, or at least it will be. SourceForge.net has approved some project space for me to use so most of the development will take place there. The project is and always will be open source as I believe that educational tools which promote human advancement of some sort should be free, and there is a huge lack of free or open source programs for the guitar out there right now.
Right now, all it does is display a fretboard of a guitar which can represent diatonic scales of any key (major or minor) in any mode. It can also display where on the guitar any note lies. The next things I will implement are the ability to change the tuning of the guitar, the ability to show how to play virtually any chord on the guitar, and list various chords/scales which fit well with a given scale or chord. I will also implement whole note and pentatonic scales, and hopefully a few other non-western scales as I find information on them.
The development of the project is limited by how much free time I have as well as how much music theory is available to me. If anyone has links or any information on basic music thoery or would like to contribute to the theory involved, please email me at gancak at rpi dot edu, if I use your information I will be sure to give you credit as a contributer. Also, please contact me if you are interested in helping me develop this software.
